Student Quotes
This quote highlights why I love teaching science, it demonstrates not only the students enjoyment and engagement with the topic but her new ability to discuss a relatively complex science topic knowledgeably and with confidence.
Just thought I would let you know that im am thoroughly enjoying this assignment!!! GM is such an interesting and controversial topic, but as far as I can see the positives out weigh the negatives. I've only looked into plants but have come across how GM can help people (possibly cure cancer, eliminate genetic conditions) but where do you stop?? I'm starting to understand why some people are all for it and others against it, definitely not a subject where you can draw a line in the sand and say yes GM is suitable for this but not this. There are some amazing agricultural break throughs happening in those 3rd world countries, the developments of sub-1 rice and golden rice are really gong to help those in need!! My eyes are wide open now!! Thanks again (student email 22/10/2015)
This page includes some of the quotes from students from both 1st and 2nd year students. They show how I engage and enthuse students and how they feel supported and in some cases translated into students who enjoy and want to teach science.

i think i will come back to Curtin for a post-grad to teach high school science, biology human bio and everything but chemistry, i wanted to thank you for showing such enthusiasm with science education and passing a love of it onto me (2nd year student email 03062015).
•Dr Sheffield,
thank you for your role in delivering such an excellent course. As I said previously to Sam, I have never experienced a Curtin external course that was so well run, with such as high level of organisation, explicit guidance, and support. It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of it and I gained a great deal (email student OUA 3/09/2015) |
Also, thank you for this semester, I have actually really enjoyed it. I've never been overly into science, but your enthusiasm for the subject has given me a new motivation to learn more science-y things, and teach it well (2nd year student email 04062015)
I also really liked the online website, I found it easier to become engaged as all the information was well organised. So thank you for your great team and all the work you do to make such a great learning experience (email OUA student 4/09/2015).

Hello Geraldine and Rachel,
I just want to thank you for presenting a wonderful unit. it was a refreshing change to participate in a unit that was considerably different from other units. It was a great experience to be able to research one topic at length from start to finish while presenting the findings in different formats. •Thank you again to the both of you. I'm looking forward to next year's unit (email student OUA 2/09/2015) |
